Bakeable Dough For ornaments, medals and figurines Have fun rolling out this dough with a rolling pin and cutting out shapes (like a sugar-cookie dough;) bake them to harden. Just don't eat your creations -- the salt is too much for you! 2 cups flour 1/2 cup salt 3/4 cup water extra flour for rolling out dough foil to cover a cookie sheet In a large bowl, stir the ingredients together to form a stiff dough. Turn the dough out onto a well-floured cutting board and knead it for a few minutes, adding a few tablespoons of flour until the dough is no longer very sticky. With a rolling pin, roll out dough to 1/4-inch thick, continuing to add a little flour. Cut out shapes with a small plastic knife or with cookie cutters. For medallions, use a plastic straw to poke a hole through the dough near the top edge. Sprinkle a little flour on a spatula, and scoop up the shapes to place them on a foil-covered cookie sheet. Bake at 225 degrees for 1 1/2 hours (90 minutes,) turning them over gently after 45 minutes. To make medallian necklaces, when the dough has cooled, thread about a yard of narrow ribbon or yarn through the hole. Tie one knot tightly against the medallian, then tie the loose ends together to make a length that will fit around the neck like a necklace. |
